14th August 2008
Bureta Young Speakers Club is almost there. The team at the Bureta YSI Club are working away to complete the paperwork and get the Club up and running now. As they are the very first Young Speakers Club, they will be denoted as Club 'F', for Founders Club. No other Club will be able to use that Club number from now on. Watch this space for more news as it happens.span>
22nd January 2008
Welcome back all. I hope you all had a great holiday break. I managed to get the golf handicap down, so it wasn't a fruitless break. Also, the leadership Manual is on its way. This is the manual that will accompany the Speech manual in the YSI clubs and compliment the speech manual.
On a different note, there is now a commercial book out there if you would like to purchase it, for a head start on providing your kids with some learning material on how to speak in public. Its called Public Speaking 4 Kids, and you can get it at www.publicspeaking4kids.com.
23rd December 2007
All the very best to all for the coming Christmas season. Drive carefully and see you next year. Kevin Warwood.
4th December 2007
A flyer to catch the
attention of all the people around Tauranga New Zealand
has been sent out. You can see it on the New Club page. We are hopeful that the
Tauranga Kati Kati team are on to a good thing here. We will keep you posted on
changes.
12th December 2007
Next year is going
to be a cracker for the organisation. The wonderful people of Tauranga are
really digging in to push the initiative along now. I expect to see a lot of
activity in the early months of 2008. Good on you team. We are all watching with
anticipation.
11th November 2007
The session with the New Zealand Toastmasters went very well. It shows a lot of
people are very keen to help their kids or to help in a community service area,
they just want a system to do it. I covered off the Toastmasters Youth Leadership
course, and how to get it started, then ran into the options you have when the
course has completed, that is start a Young Speakers Club! Its great to hear
the team in Tauranga are so keen to get moving. It looks like the first Clubs
to kick off there will be in February next year. So lots of work to do.
18th October 2007
I have been asked to run a Young Speakers educational at the Toastmasters Spring
Convention in Wellington, New Zealand next month. If you are
looking to run a Youth Leadership Course or want to start a YSI Club, then
please come along to the Educational. I will go through how to run these
courses and how to set up one of these Clubs for the kids.
18th October 2007 back in Action
We are back. Its been a very busy time recently but we are on track to start a new
Club in Tauranga New Zealand. There have been
a group of youngsters looking for something like a Toastmasters Club, and in
fact have been attending a Toastmasters Club to get that unique speaking experience.
Well they have decided it would be a
good thing to start a Club of there own. More news coming.
18th January 2007 Short Courses Coming Soon
YSI would like to announce that we are in the process of creating some short courses.
Dates and venues are being found now. By popular demand, we have decided to
create these courses as a lead into a YSI Club. Go to the Short Courses page.
More details as they arrive.......
3rd January 2007 Welcome back from the Christmas Break
I hope everyone has had a wonderful few days off. No rest for Young Speakers though.
We are marching on with our desire to complete the logo, colours and design of
our communication collateral. We will shortly be finalising our first draft of
the education material, so it will be ready for the school term. We are also
currently discussing a new Club for the Greenlane area. More details later. In
the meantime, all the best for the New Year and be safe.
7th December 2006 Interest now coming in from all over the world
We are starting to get interest from all over the world. A Headmaster in Toronto wants to know more about Young Speakers, and an enquiry
from the USA
came in last night. We hope to help all of our youth all over the world, so
expanding overseas was inevitable. We will be very pleased to start talking
with these champions about starting new areas around the world.
3rd December 2006 Membership has reached its first target - 15
We have reached our first target. We now have the 15 we need to Incorporate as a
Society. Now its off to the Companies office. Once thats done, we then go back
to the IRD to become a fully fledged charity.
16th November 2006 Membership starting to climb
Its wonderful to see the work you put in and believe in starting to pay off. We
need 15 members to incorporate the Society with the Companies Office, and we picked
up our first three members yesterday. Gail Charrier of Red Beach,
Claire Read of One Tree Hill, and Kevin Warwood from Papakura are the first members.
A big thank you to those people. Only 12 to go.
9th November 2006 Final meeting for the year at Papatoetoe High
The final meeting for the year will be at Papatoetoe High School
on Thursday 9th November. They have really worked through the year and turned the
programme into a fantastic success. Next year we hope to kick off with many more
students involved.
7th November 2006 Welcome to Young Speakers Inc
Claire and I have been working on this project for many months now and we are very
happy to finally see the website up and the project under way. My thanks go out
to Zenago Internet Solutions for basically sponsoring this website and building
it and putting it up into cyberspace. Kevin Warwood
2nd November 2006 IRD ticked Young Speakers off
The IRD ticked off our constitution today. They have added a couple of clauses in
and reworded a couple of clauses, but said we are able to now apply to Incorporate
Young Speakers. This means when we incorporate, we will have charity status.
The IRD have been great too. They sent my request to the right person and he
spent the time reading and suggesting ways to move forward. Kevin Warwood
1st November 2006 We have our first 15 supporters
It's been a wonderful day for Young Speakers today. Part of the Incorporation process
is to find 15 people who believe in your vision well enough to sign up to it.
We got our 15th person today. We only have to have a get together now to get eh
documents signed, and we can send that off to the Companies office for incorporation
(once IRD have ticked off the Constitution). Kevin Warwood
5th October 2006 Pilot running at Papatoetoe High School
The pilot programme, that has been running at Papatoetoe High School for the
year, has been really backed by the school. They now have a waiting list of 200
to go through the programme. This that there will need to be
another 7 Clubs!!! This will create some huge logistical issues, but it's a good
problem to have.
